In the midst of wedding planning, many newly engaged couples view engagement sessions as a waste of time and money. Now, of course, as a photographer, I disagree for a plethora of reasons. Reasons for this disagreement go way past using them to save the dates as that is not the main reason why it’s important to have an engagement session with your wedding/elopement photographer.
While there are many reasons as to why an engagement session is a worthwhile investment, I will cover the 3 reasons that I find most important. Because not only are engagement sessions worth it, but they can also directly impact your wedding photos in the best of ways.
1. YOUR COMFORT LEVEL IN FRONT OF A CAMERA
Many couples and individuals don’t have experience with having professional photos taken prior to planning their wedding. The first time you have somewhat of a stranger in front of you with a lens pointing in your direction, it can be intimidating. Engagement sessions help you to get comfortable in front of the camera and with the process as a whole before the big day. This way by the time your wedding day rolls around, you are already a pro in front of the camera.
2. YOUR COMFORT LEVEL WITH THE PHOTOGRAPHER
Getting to know your photographer better so you don’t feel like you have a complete stranger photographing you on your wedding day is key. Engagement sessions help so much with getting you comfortable around them and strengthening that bond.
3. CONFIDENCE SAVES TIME
Since you will be experienced with the two above items- you won’t spend time second-guessing everything on the day of your wedding. Having that comfort level will end up saving time when it comes to taking portraits so you can spend more time with your family and guests!
